Hello everyone. I am Kruthika. I secured rank 100 in cse 2018 and rank 194 in cse 2017. Currently I am in IRS (IT) training at NADT Nagpur. I secured rank in my fifth attempt. This year, I have got 443 marks in general studies. My optional was public administration. In this article I will share my journey, the mistakes I made and my strategy for general studies. I have divided this article into following parts: My Preparation journey and lessons learnt My GS strategy Important tips for answer writing Tips for making notes Tips for revision. My Preparation journey and lessons learnt My journey for civil services started on 25th june 2012. I picked up the Hindu newspaper and made notes after reading it. The first note I made was about Mahi. She was a 5 year old girl, who had fallen into an open manhole and her parents were claiming compensation. ReplyDeletei made current affairs notes from insights daily current events, secure articles, civilsdaily and newspaper reading. i used to make it online. so i would read the content and whatever i felt is important and i can replicate in the exam, i would note it down. as I was doing it online, all content related to one topic would be under the same heading. This will give a holistic picture by the end and helps in revision

ReplyDeleteRespected Mam, first of all I thank you for the ICAN initiative that have instilled the confidence in me to pursue this exam. I was a religious follower of your ICAN initiative and although you discontinued it due to lack of time, it provided a firm base on which I am working on. So, in a way you are my first Guru in this field. Thus, I am reaching out to my Guru and I request you Guruma, to provide a detailed strategy on GS 4 paper as I am facing a lot of hurdles in answer writing, specially in Sec A. The issues are somewhat like these- 1. Do I bring in my optional subject terms in the paper for ex- Psychological terms of conformity, psychological testing, its related research and researcher name? 2. What should be the structure of an answer? Yes you have provided your copy to examine but the sample size and the variation is too small to be definite. 3. For questions like " Examine the relation between process of socialization and moral compass of an individual", do I give both the positive and negative side as we provide in GS or just a common heading? 4. Lastly, for answers with quote is it alright to approach answer writing structure as a mini Essay topic? Mam, I implore you to please clarify my doubts so that I can crack this exam and make you proud as an initial product of I-CAN. Also, Mam this is the only medium I could find to contact you as your YT channel has no update since last year.
